Overview

Summary:

As an epidemiologist, I have studied the cause, control, and prevention of diseases of cattle important to human and cattle health. My contributions to science have the central theme of creating teams of investigators to discover how food animal production-systems can be modified to improve the health, well-being, and productivity of animals (primarily cattle), and also benefit human and environmental health.

Education:

  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Veterinary Preventive Medicine, Ohio State University, The, 1997
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.), Veterinary Medicine, Ohio State University, The, 1983
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Agriculture, Ohio State University, The, 1980

Research interests:

Applying systems thinking to solve common health and productivity problems of cattle, including:

antimicrobial resistance
bovine respiratory disease
failure of transfer of maternal immunity
pre-harvest food safety
