Bardsley Scholarship Program

The Charles E. and Viola G. Bardsley Scholars Program provides a group of first-year students with significant financial assistance based on state of residency, grade point average, extracurricular activities, and leadership potential. The scholarships are made possible by a gift from the estate of Dr. Charles and Mrs. Viola Bardsley, who lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and took a special interest in the MSU CVM. Bardsley Scholarships are awarded annually to eight to twelve students entering the College and meeting program requirements. The scholarship recipients are selected from our top-ranking students, and they must have demonstrated high academic performance by achieving at least a 3.75 GPA on a four-point scale in their undergraduate studies, as well as boast an impressive list of extracurricular activities and demonstrated leadership potential.

In addition to the initial entrance selection interview, those selected to receive Bardsley Scholarships are chosen after a second, in-depth evaluation conducted by a committee of MSU CVM faculty.

To retain their scholarship monies, each Bardsley Scholar must maintain a minimum cumulative 3.25 GPA throughout the first and second year of the DVM program.

The Huddleston Scholarship Program

The Dr. Elton Mac Huddleston Rural Veterinary Scholarship Program was created by the Mississippi State Legislature in 2024 to address the state's growing need for rural veterinary practitioners.

The scholarship provides full in-state tuition and fees for all four years of the DVM program. In return, recipients commit to practicing large or mixed animal practice in Mississippi for at least four years following graduation, as well as completing the college’s Rural Veterinary Practice certificate program.

The scholarship is named in honor of the late Dr. Mac Huddleston. A veterinarian and member of the state legislature, Huddleston was recognized as living a life marked by service, he worked for many years as a large animal practitioner and served as executive secretary of the Mississippi Veterinary Medical Association and Mississippi Board of Veterinary Medicine. He was also among the first faculty members at MSU CVM and an inaugural member of the college’s Dean’s Council.

The scholarship is awarded to two first-year DVM students each year.
