Dr. Kristin Tew was born right here in Starkville, MS and grew up in Forest, MS. Dr. Tew attended the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from The University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg, MS. She served as an officer in the US Air Force for 5 years.  In 2012 she earned a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling from The New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, New Orleans. Dr. Tew earned her Doctorate in Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology at Xavier University in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Tew completed her APA Internship at Mississippi State University’s Student Counseling Services. She was the recipient of the BIAH Post-Doc Fellowship sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health at Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary medicine. In addition to her three years of experience working with the veterinary medicine community, Dr. Tew has also worked in both inpatient and outpatient mental health settings, college counseling settings as well as in community mental health. Additionally, she has worked with individuals with intellectual disabilities, substance use and prevention, survivors of childhood trauma, individuals with combat PTSD, serious mental illness, and dual diagnosis. She has given presentations on suicide prevention and awareness to state and national members of the veterinary medicine community and has worked with MSU’s Department of Psychology on their suicide prevention and awareness grant. Dr. Tew has been on staff at CVM as a staff psychologist since June 2024. She has been married to her husband Ken for 26 years and they have served together in pastoral ministry for 25 years. She has 3 children, Elizabeth, Corban, and Joshua, who are all currently enrolled in 3 different colleges and 2 4-legged children, their 10-year-old lab, Rocky, and their 5-year-old goldendoodle, Mariposa, who is her daughter’s service dog. One of Dr. Tew’s favorite past times is watching her children compete and perform in their various activities and ringing her cowbell at MS State Football games.
