Funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), this multi-center study is centralized through the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Neurosurgery Department. Participating veterinary colleges include Mississippi State University, Auburn University, Tuskegee University, and the University of Georgia. The clinical trial of this therapy was first initiated in humans and has been safe and effective thus far. It is considered to be on the cutting edge of therapy in both humans and canines.
