CVM Psychological Services Honored By National Publication

Mississippi State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, Maggie Freeman-Bishop Office for Health and Wellness, received the 2025 Excellence in Mental Health and Well-Being Award from Insight Into Academia magazine. The Excellence in Mental Health and Well-Being Award is a measure of an institution’s individual programs and initiatives that significantly advance the core values of inclusive excellence and belonging through programs, initiatives, and many other campus priorities deserving of this national recognition.

MSU's College of Veterinary Medicine will be featured, along with 70 other recipients, in the September 2025 issue of Insight Into Academia magazine.

“Everything we’ve built has been in response to real sentiments and faculty needs,” Dr. Pauline Prince, director of the CVM Office of Psychological Services, said. “And it couldn’t have happened without support from our administration and donors committed to improving not just our students’ veterinary school experience and current quality of life but also their future careers and quality of life.”

Insight Into Academia magazine selected The Maggie Freeman-Bishop Office for Health and Wellness because The Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine (MSU CVM) is committed to supporting the well-being and success of its students through a wide range of services. Counseling support is available for issues such as suicide ideation, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, OCD, trauma recovery, crisis response, conflict resolution, difficult conversations, homesickness, and social or emotional problem-solving.

MSU CVM also provides academic support tailored to the unique needs of veterinary students. Services include help with study strategies, test anxiety, learning and memory, ADHD, learning disabilities, motivation, procrastination, academic support planning, and disabilities assessments.

Professional development resources are also available to help students build confidence and prepare for success in their careers. This includes support for medical skills performance anxiety, building effective medical teams, NAVLE preparation, compassion fatigue, and imposter syndrome.

“We know that institutions are not always recognized for their dedication to their mental health and well-being services and support for their students and employees,” says Lenore Pearlstein, owner and publisher of Insight Into Academia magazine. “We are proud to honor these colleges and universities as role models for other institutions of higher education.”

A call for nominations for this award was announced in March 2025.
