MSU CVM is known not only for training outstanding veterinary students but also for cultivating career paths for its graduates. One example is Jaysa Bloodworth, a recent Veterinary Medical Technology (VMT) graduate who chose to stay at MSU CVM to continue working with the animals and people who inspired her as a student.
“When I graduated, there was an opening in the Equine Hospital, and I knew that’s where I wanted to be,” Bloodworth said. “Large animal medicine has always been something I really enjoy, so it was a natural fit.”
The equine team and hospital stood out as a perfect place to grow professionally. “What really impressed me was the doctors’ willingness to teach and mentor students. Their dedication to sharing knowledge makes me want to join the team as a staff member.”
Transition from student to colleague brought its own set of challenges.
“It’s definitely been an adjustment,” she admitted. “I went from being a tech student assisting with cases to being the person that students come to with questions. It’s a big shift but a rewarding one.”
When thinking about her transition from VMT student to CVT staff, she knows one thing: the foundation built in the classroom is only the beginning.
“In class, you learn the basics you need, but you gain a whole new level of understanding on the clinic floor. That's where the real learning happens,” she said. “Don’t be afraid to ask questions. You can learn so much during your rotations about the world, the expectations, and whether this sis the right fit for you. When I rotated through the equine department as a student, it gave me a clear picture of what the job would be like. That experience made the transition smoother.”
MSU CVM is proud to see graduates like Jaysa Bloodworth not only succeed but also choose to stay and become an integral part of the college community.
